I hear Firefox could be getting an important UI update this year too, or the next, I don’t know. I don’t want to list too many negatives for now since I like the initiative. Otherwise Opera would have advertised a new technology and not only a new UI. – I suspect Neon is fast because it has no architecture to support add-ons or customizability along with many removed parts. – I don’t like bubble tabs ATM, they feel kind of messy to me. I spent some time finding good ones, might as well give it screen time… – Seeing the desktop background is nice too. But ditching the URL field is insecure, I wouldn’t like a browser to remove it for all users, by default. Text is the main blocker, since it’s horizontal, and the main text user is the URL field. Screens are too large and not high enough, so vertical UI is good for those “landscape” screens. Ideally, a browser would let users setup 2 customized UI: One for portrait screens, one for landscape. Bars or whatever these elements morph into, let’s call them blobs. – Definitely agree with moving everything to the sides, or better yet, letting the user move around large UI elements such as the tab bar or the address bar. Now You: What's your first impression of Opera Neon? Neon does not support extensions, or advanced configuration options that browsers such as Firefox offer.Ĭonsidering that it is an experimental browser, it does not necessarily have to offer those. In fact, you cannot customize the interface at all, if you don't count setting a different desktop wallpaper on your device. While that is interesting, you may also notice that it offers little in terms of customizing the interface. Opera Neon is surprisingly fast and responsive, and it uses a different interface than other desktop browsers. While you get most of Chromium's settings, and advanced settings, that is all there is available right now. Settings are provided, but they are limited. Opera Neon supports a split-screen mode that allows you to display two pages next to each other on the screen. You can click on those videos to use the video pop-out functionality of Opera Neon to watch the video while browsing other sites in Opera Neon. Videos that you open on sites like YouTube are picked up automatically by the Player component. The browser supports several other features of interest. Often used tabs are pushed to the top, and less often used tabs are moved to the bottom.

Plus, as an interesting (but unrelated) aside, the browser just happens to share a name with Microsoft's Project Neon, Windows 10's upcoming visual refresh that's meant to be a "UI that transports across devices.Opera Neon uses an "intelligent system" that manages tabs automatically. However, it is definitely an interesting experiment in how the browser space could be shaken up in the future. Statt Browser-Tabs gibt es im Opera Neon Browser-Icons und sie werden rechts angeordnet statt oben. Mit einem Klick auf das -Symbol oben rechts im jeweiligen Fenster kann man es wieder minimieren und damit zum Homescreen zurückkehren. Keep in mind that Neon isn't meant to fully replace whatever browser you currently use, as the emphasis is definitely on the word "concept" here. Der Browser mit dem Homescreen Neue Webseiten öffnen sich nun oberhalb dieses Homescreens. Neon also has a number of other cool flourishes, ranging from easy screenshots to a physics engine, that are worth checking out. Neon also includes video pop-out and split screen modes, allowing you to easily watch a video while you browse other sites, or simply stack two windows next to each other with just a click. The browser automatically pulls in your desktop wallpaper to act as a backdrop to its start page, while easily identifiable bubbles on the side of the app replace the typical tab bar up top. Upon starting up Opera Neon, you'll immediately see some big differences between it and your usual browser of choice.
